Thin People with Joint Pain

Throughought this site, we’ve described the effects of belly fat on joint inflammation. It is important to understand that thin people can also have excessive body fat that affects joint inflammation.

This phenomenon is sometimes referred to as TOFI, or thin outside, fat inside. This is a condition of body fat increasing internally, even though the individual may not appear overweight on the outside. In short, fat slowly replaces muscle over the years. So, overall body weight does not change, but the composition or make-up of that body slowly drifts toward more fat.
